Parents and Leaders

Committee and Green Bar Meeting

The troop committee meets the fourth Wednesday of the month, at the Knights’ hall.  High-level planning, finances, and general concerns are discussed at this meeting of volunteer adults. All parents are welcome to attend this meeting.  Remember to keep up with the troop calendar: this is the definitive information source for all troop events.

The scout senior leadership, also known as the “Green Bar” scouts — Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders and Guide — also meet monthly to plan the troop’s events.

Using the Calendar

The troop maintains a Google Calendar of meetings, events and outings.  It is kept up-to-date and is the canonical record of when troop events will take place.  If you use Google Calendars already, you can add it to your calendar.  You can also import the troop calendar to your home calendar via the ical format.

Adult Volunteers

The troop functions thanks to much behind-the-scenes efforts from our adult volunteers. All families are expected to contribute in some small way to this. Interested parents are encouraged to participate in the San Gabriel Valley Council’s training program or the national council’s free online e-learning courses.  “This is Scouting” is a wonderful overview for new parents; “Youth Protection Training” is necessary for all parents who want to be active participants in scouting. Troop 147 is led by our scouts, but this also requires help from adult volunteers. All parents are welcome and expected to contribute, either on our outings or by getting involved behind-the-scenes.

Adults can visit the websites of local councils for leader training calendars, including our own San Gabriel Valley Council “High Adventure Team” training.
