Surf, sand, raccoons, and trains – what more could a scout ask for as a weekend campout? Carpinteria State Beach is one of Troop 147’s regular beach haunts.
Another successful Eagle service project for our troop. Troop 147 scouts volunteered to help our eagle candidate who led the project, which involved installing a complete irrigation system in the rose garden at Immaculate Conception church. Many younger scouts worked very hard in shifts to get this big project done – an excellent opportunity to hone their ditch-digging skills.
The Lucky Baldwin District Camporee is a great opportunity for patrols to show off their skills in a friendly atmosphere of competition and camaraderie. Boys are tested on first aid, firebuilding, orienteering, knots & lashings, hiking, cooking, camping, and other outdoors and teambuilding skills. Scouts compete as individual patrols against other troops from surrounding cities (Monrovia, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, and Temple City), and also against other patrols of Troop 147. All three patrols of Troop 147 earned high honors in 2009, but this year, our youngest patrol, the Blazing Catz, beat out our two older patrols with the ultimate honor of the “Presidential Award”. Way to go to all our scouts!
